The Town Clerk also acts as the Town Registrar of Vital Records and Statistics. The Office accepts for filing and maintains records of all births, deaths and marriages that occur in West Newbury. Births or adoptions of children whose parents reside in West Newbury are recorded. Deaths of town residents who pass away in other communities are also recorded. The Town Clerk is authorized to issue certified copies of birth, death and marriage records, and administers adoption and record-change depositions.
There is no fee for filing a vital record, however, there is a fee for obtaining a certified copy of a vital record. The fee for a certified copy is $10.00. An abstract of any vital record can be provided for a fee of $5.00. Anyone may inspect vital records (except out of wedlock birth records may be inspected only by those individuals named on the record).
TO REQUEST A CERTIFIED COPY OR ABSTRACT OF A BIRTH, DEATH OR MARRIAGE RECORD:
1. REQUESTS ARE ACCEPTED BY PHONE, FAX, MAIL OR IN PERSON;
2. INCLUDE IN YOUR REQUEST THE NAME, DATE OF THE EVENT AND A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER FOR $10.00 FOR A CERTIFIED COPY OR $5.00 FOR AN ABSTRACT
3. IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR RECORDS MAILED BACK TO YOU, PLEASE INCLUDE A SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED & BUSINESS-SIZED ENVELOPE WITH YOUR REQUEST.
4. PLEASE ALLOW FIVE (5) BUSINESS DAYS FOR PROCESSING OF YOUR REQUEST.
We try to respond to requests immediately, but, at times, the business of the office necessitates delay in issuance of vital record copies.
