Rocks Village Bridge, MDOT laser scans scheduled THIS FRIDAY

Update on continuing work; NEW update as of Oct 15
bridge damage

This is an update on MassDOT's continuing work on the Rocks Village Bridge, following the collision that occurred on July 5th.

The next step in the repair process is to survey the damaged steel truss members. MDOT will be performing a 3D Laser Scan of the bridge truss. This is now scheduled to take place THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18TH.

The plan is to begin work at 8 AM (after all buses have gone over the bridge). It will take some time to get set up. Then MDOT will stop traffic and perform the scans. After each scan, traffic will be allowed to clear out before performing the next scan.

This work requires a dry day before the day of the scan and a dry day on the day of the scan. Any deck movement during the scan will impact the accuracy of the results Therefore, vehicles will not be permitted on the bridge during the scan. Scans last about 15 minutes and it is estimated that 4 scans are needed.

Please contact the Police Department of the Town Manager's office if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
