Forgotten drinks

G.A.R. Memorial Library presents Forgotten Drinks of Colonial New England on ZOOM.

Pour yourself a Switchel and join writer Corin Hirsch for a virtual talk about colonial-era cocktails, from cider and punch to grog, Rattle-Skulls and Stone Fences. She’ll explore the roots and reasons behind early Americans' enthusiasm for drink, explore the lesser-known role that alcohol played in war-related events, discuss the evolution of taverns and break down the building blocks of a rudimentary colonial-era bar. Segueing from the 1600s to present day, she’ll also highlight the continuing influence of early drinking culture in our customs, expressions and local landscape. Hirsch is a food and drinks writer at Newsday and author of the book Forgotten Drinks of Colonial New England: From Flips and Rattle-Skulls to Switchel and Spruce Beer.

This is a virtual program on ZOOM. Registration required.

You will receive the Zoom link and 3 colonial-era cocktail recipes prior to the event.
