Join the local team working to make West Newbury more resilient to climate change
The Town of West Newbury is actively seeking additional members to join the Climate Change Resiliency Committee (CCRC) that is involved in identifying and implementing projects to ready our community for the projected impacts of climate change. The CCRC formed back in 2020 after the Town joined the Commonwealth's Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program and engaged in a community-wide discussion of West Newbury's climate change vulnerabilities as well as the many assets the Town is seeking to protect. The Report produced through the MVP is available on the town website HERE. The CCRC is currently working to take action on a number of initiatives identified in the Report. In the coming year it will be seeking grant funding to investigate bank stabilization on the Merrimac along River Road and to address the explosion of invasive plants in West Newbury’s public spaces.
Additional members with an interest and energy to put toward this important work would greatly enhance progress on these and other projects. Joining a committee is a great way, especially for those new to West Newbury, to get to know people, learn about the town, and get involved in its future!
If you think you may be interested, you can learn more about the Climate Change Resiliency Committee by attending a meeting, generally the second Wednesday of each month, or by reaching out directly to a Committee member. To visit the web site for more information click HERE.
