Local Temperature and Precipitation Records–2000+

Since 2000, it has been wetter and hotter here on average–with greater extremes at both ends of the thermometer.

According to measurements taken at Newburyport's Spring Lane water department complex on the Merrimack near I-95, between 2000 and 2015, the average temperature year-round increased by about 1 degree Fahrenheit. At the same time, the maximum (high) temperatures grew hotter and the minimum (low) temperatures grew colder. Also, between 2000 and 2019, precipitation levels trended higher than normal.  SOURCE:  NOAA Northeast Regional Climate Center
