Doors Open for West Newbury Trees through Community Involvement

The corona virus crisis has sent most West Newbury citizens to the comfort of their homes for health and safety, practicing social distancing. All outdoor community events, including our Arbor Day Celebration, have been canceled or postponed.  Yet, one door closes…another one opens.  

The new exercise habit of walking around our properties and streets has allowed many of us to rediscover the comfort of nature and trees. As spring blossoms appear, it is hard not to notice the abundance of beautiful, amazing trees…significant and remarkable trees to each of us. That’s where the “new door” opens.  Let’s take this unusual opportunity of being at home and walking each day to observe, appreciate, and be inspired by the trees in our community.

The West Newbury Tree Committee invites each citizen to become involved with the new effort to compile the Roster of Significant and Remarkable Trees in West Newbury.

Originally, the Tree Committee planned to introduce this project at the Arbor Day Celebration. Now, we invite you to join the effort by first observing the trees that inspire you on your walks and, second, by bringing these inspirational trees to the attention of the Tree Committee for possible addition to the Roster.

To do this, please download the attached form, the Significant & Remarkable Tree Nomination Form, fill it in with as much information as you can, and send the completed form to:

If you love trees and forests, consider joining a new organization, Friends of West Newbury Trees (FOWNT).
