Congratulations Sergeant Johnson

The Board of Selectmen, at their meeting on May 26, 2020, voted to appoint Interim Sergeant Jay Johnson as Police Sergeant.

Sergeant Johnson has been a member of the West Newbury Police Department since 1998. He served as a full-time dispatcher and reserve patrolman from 1999 until his appointment as a full-time patrolman in 2005. Since then, he has filled a number of duty positions in addition to patrol including Detective, Evidence/Property Officer, and Firearms, Use of Force and ALERRT Instructor. He holds certifications in Criminal Investigation, Arson Investigation, and Background Investigations. Sergeant Johnson was recently assigned as the Department's Accreditation Officer and is currently the Overnight Supervisor. 

Prior to joining the West Newbury Police Department, Sergeant Johnson served as a Military Policeman in the United States Army and the Army Reserve from 1984 until 1997. He held the rank of Sergeant and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. From 1988 until 1999, he was a Reserve Patrolman with the Merrimac Police Department.

Sergeant Johnson is married and resides locally. He is the father of two adult children.  Please help us to congratulate Sergeant Johnson as he steps into his new role.
