Residential Solar in West Newbury

11% Coverage with Room to Grow

The Solarize West Newbury project ran in 2015 and 2016.  The West Newbury Energy Advisory Committee (WNEAC), on behalf of the Town, adapted the state’s existing Solarize Massachusetts program to offer a group purchasing opportunity for West Newbury residents interested in home solar energy systems.  After selecting a qualified solar installation contractor (Solarflair), WNEAC facilitated a series of “Meet the Installer” sessions where residents spoke with the experts about their options to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The arrangement featured discounts based on how much power the group purchased.  As more people committed to buy solar PV systems, the cost per kilowatt declined.  Based on the excellent response of town residents, Solarize West Newbury reached the maximum discount level offered.  As a result of this project approximately 34 homes in West Newbury received new solar energy systems, accounting for about 274 kilowatts of power generation.

As of April 2019, about 160 home solar PV installations are in place, representing nearly 11% of West Newbury’s households.  If you are interested in home solar PV opportunities, here are some helpful links:
